Here is a another story of two people who were lucky enough to meet at a 7 Minute Yenta event.

Will and Pattie About a year after I lost my wife of 32 years to breast cancer, I decided it was time to get busy as I realized I did not want to live alone for the rest of my life. I had a few dates with women that well meaning friends and church family recommended but, neither of them panned out. After these failed attempts to seriously date someone in the hopes of finding a Christian woman, I decided to join a group that had been advertised locally as a place where “singles could meet singles without hitting the bar scene”. It was called “The Seven Minute Yenta”. The facilitator, Susan Esser, assembles 10 people from each sex in about the same age group together at a café in Bettendorf, Iowa. The night I attended, November 8th, there were 14 women and 10 men. Most of the women were 3 to 10 years younger than me. Susan says she gives the ladies more latitude with preferences and these ladies could be interested in men older than they were. After making the rounds, I decided there wasn’t anyone there that I would be interested in pursuing any further.

Susan had sent quite a few emails to me with events she had organized including dances for singles. I hadn’t been interested until I heard about the next dance to be held on December 13, 2002 with the theme “Meet me Under the Mistletoe” co-sponsored by some local TV/Radio stations and the March of Dimes. I vacillated as to whether on not I would attend. I didn’t make up my mind until the day before the dance after speaking with a co-worker, and finding out he also was planning on attending. The dance was a blast. I meet plenty of friendly people but around 9:30, there she was. I knew her the moment I saw her. We introduced ourselves, danced and got acquainted. We exchanged phone numbers and I promised to call. We dated frequently and I proposed marriage on March 21, 2003. After several more months of discovering each other, we set a wedding date for November 29, 2003. I am sure we will be very happy together.
